In the world of Hollywood it seems that way Timothée Chalamet can do anything.

Now Timothée is putting his vocal skills to the test in his latest project: A complete unknown (published December 25th). In the biopic he embodies the legendary musician Bob Dylan as he becomes famous in 1960s New York. As the story tells how Bob became a pioneer of electric instruments, some of Bob’s influential catalog of music are featured, including songs like “Girl From the North Country” and “Like a Rolling Stone.”

Given that Bob is known for his prolific voice and Timothée seems to handle all the elements required to portray him, it’s important for us to know: Does Timothée Chalamet actually sing along? A complete unknown? Or was his voice dubbed to sound like Bob? As it turns out, we have an answer – and it comes from none other than Timothée herself.

Here’s the short answer: If you’re watching A complete unknownyou will hear Timothée’s true (and vibrant!) voice. As he explained in an interview with in November 2024 Weekly entertainmentThe ability to sing Bob’s music live was an important element for him in taking on the role.

“It was important to me to sing and play live,” he explained in a clip posted to YouTube. “Because if I can actually do it, why should there be an element of artificiality here? And I’m proud that we took this step.”

And if that’s not enough, this information may shock you. There are not one or two songs in which Timothée sings A complete unknown – that’s actually it 40 songs throughout the film. And he adds to it by also playing the harmonica and guitar – meaning he’s basically a triple threat!

A complete unknown also includes other iconic musicians of the 60s such as: Joan Baez (Monica Barbara), Pete Seeger (Edward Norton), Johnny Cash (Boyd Holbrook) And Woody Guthrie (Scoot McNairy). It turns out that Timothée isn’t the only one singing in the film.

“It’s a real accomplishment to do the songs,” added Boyd, who portrays the “Ring of Fire” singer. “It was a process.”

And if you’re wondering how Timothée’s vocal performance will be received A complete unknownthere is really only one opinion that counts. As Bob posted on X (formerly Twitter), he’s ready to be blown away.

“There is a film about me coming soon A complete unknown (what a title!),” he wrote on December 4th. “Timothee Chalamet plays the lead role. Timmy is a brilliant actor, so I’m sure he’ll be as believable as I am. Or a younger me. Or another me… It’s a fantastic retelling of the events of the early ’60s.”
