Domantas Sabonis’ injury status and update ahead of the Kings’ game against the Pistons

After the Christmas break, the Sacramento Kings (13-17) have lost four times in a row and are in 12th place in the Western Conference. If they want to salvage their season, they’ll have to do it quickly, and on Thursday they have a chance to begin their revival against a team with an identical record: the Detroit Pistons (13-17).

But who will the Sacramento Kings have available? What about the pistons? Here is the full injury report for today’s game.

Sacramento Kings Injury Report

As you can tell from the title of the post, the main headliner on the Kings front is their all-star forward Domantas Sabonis. Sabonis is an infamous Iron Man. However, it appears he is afflicted with an illness that now lists him as questionable for tonight’s game (per Basketball Reference). Generally, this designation means that you have a 50/50 chance of playing. Sabonis has already missed two games so far this season. That’s already two more than he missed last year.

Besides Sabonis, the only other Kings player on the injury report is their 2024 first-round pick Devin Carter. Carter has yet to suit up for his new team as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery. He remains out tonight and is expected to be re-evaluated in January (per Matt George). Carter was a great addition for the way they took him in the draft, but it’s unlikely he’ll be a difference-maker in his first season for this team.

Detroit Pistons injury report

The Pistons have three names to keep an eye on as we get closer to the starting point. Those players are Jalen Duren (ankle), Ron Holland (illness) and Isaiah Stewart (knee). Stewart and Holland are both listed as questionable. Duren is now considered likely (meaning his chance of playing tonight is about 75%).

The Pistons better hope they don’t have to be without Duren and Stewart, as that will put a big burden on Paul Reed’s shoulders – a player they’ve already had to lean on heavily with Stewart missing the last three games.

After the game tonight, The Kings will travel to Los Angeles on Saturday, December 28th to face the Lakers for the third time this season.
