President-elect Trump told the Post on Saturday that he supports immigrant visas for high-skilled workers and appears to be siding with Elon Musk in the heated internal MAGA debate on the issue.

“I’ve always liked the visas, I’ve always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump said by phone, referring to the H-1B program that allows companies to hire foreign workers in specialty jobs.

“I have many H-1B visas for my properties. I believed in H-1B. I have used it many times. “It’s a great program,” added Trump, who restricted access to foreign work visas in his first term and has been critical of the program in the past.

Musk and other tech barons argued this week that the H-1B visa program is critical to ensuring American companies can find highly skilled workers that may not be readily available in the U.S. workforce and need to be expanded.

MAGA hardliners want Trump to make good on his promise to promote U.S. workers and impose stricter immigration restrictions.

Trump’s Saturday comments come a day after Musk vowed to “go to war” over the issue and told a mocking opponent to “go fuck himself.”

The outburst came after X user Steven Mackey criticized the billionaire’s defense of the program by using his own words against him.

“Stop trying to optimize something that shouldn’t exist,” Mackey wrote. “Let’s optimize H-1B,” he added sarcastically.

Musk responded: “The reason I am in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that have made America strong is because of H1B.”

“Take a big step back and fuck yourself in the face. “I’m going to go to war on this issue that you can’t possibly imagine,” he added, quoting a memorable line from the 2008 comedy “Tropic Thunder.”

The tech billionaire has been criticized by MAGA diehards including Laura Loomer and Ann Coulter – who say the H-1B visa program has been abused and needs to be severely restricted.

And influential voices around Trump have also begun to publicly turn against Musk.

“Please notify ‘Child Protective Services’ – they need to do a ‘health check’ on this toddler,” former White House adviser Steve Bannon mocked the X boss in a Saturday post on his Gettr account.

Musk said his passion for the issue stems from America’s desire to remain competitive by attracting “the top ~0.1% of engineering talent,” which he said is critical for “America to continue to win.”

Vivek Ramaswamy, who will co-head the Ministry of Government Efficiency with Musk, supported Musk and expressed criticism of American society.

“American culture has revered mediocrity over excellence,” Ramaswamy wrote on X.
