At 12 p.m. ET, Trump will take the presidential oath of office alongside Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts in front of the Capitol in Washington, DC

Vice President-elect JD Vance’s swearing-in ceremony will take place in front of Trump.

Last month, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies (JCCIC) announced “Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise” as the theme for the 60th Inaugural Ceremonies.

According to JCCIC, the theme honors the Founders’ commitment to future generations of Americans to ensure the longevity of the democratic system of government.

Congress wants to confirm Trump’s election victory on Monday

The House and Senate will meet on Monday to certify Trump’s victory in the 2024 presidential election.

It comes four years after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol and prevented Congress from certifying President Biden’s 2020 victory. However, Democrats appear to have made no preparations to block the certification of Trump’s victory.

Senators and House members will hold a joint session at 1 p.m. to count electoral votes from the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Vice President Kamala Harris will preside over the Senate.

Harris, who won 226 electoral votes, will read the votes aloud, after which Congress will tally the results of each state to certify Trump’s victory. He received 312 Electoral College votes, much more than the 270 needed to win.

The joint meeting is the last official opportunity to object. Harris admitted defeat and never questioned Trump’s victory.

Trump’s inauguration plan

On the eve of his inauguration, Trump will host a “victory rally you’ll never forget” for 20,000 admirers in Washington, DC

The “Make America Great Again Victory Rally” begins at 3:00 p.m. on January 19th at Capital One Arena. According to the Trump Inauguration website, gates will open at 11 a.m. and visitors are welcome to register for up to two rally tickets per phone number.

What will be different at Trump’s inauguration?

Flags will be lowered to half-staff during Trump’s inauguration.

Biden ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff for 30 days in honor of former President Jimmy Carter, who died aged 100.

Biden’s declaration is valid until sunset on January 28th. In a Truth Social post, Trump complained that the flag was flown at half-staff on his special day.

“Democrats are all ‘excited’ that our magnificent American flag may fly at ‘half-mast’ during my inauguration,” he said in a post on Truth Social.
