Don’t cancel Taylor Lorenz, let her cancel herself: Bobby Burack

Over the past week, former Washington Post reporter Taylor Lorenz has repeatedly celebrated the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. She has shared photos calling the murder suspect a “hero,” promoted posts encouraging social media users to threaten death to other health care leaders, and a Substack post titled “Yes , ‘we’ want the death of insurance managers”.

On Monday, Lorenz appeared on “Piers Morgan Uncensored” and told the jury that she felt a sense of “joy” when she saw the video of a thug shooting Thompson in the street.

“Why are you so solemn about the execution of another human being?” Morgan asked Lorenz. “Shouldn’t you be on the caring, sharing left side where you, you know, believe in the sanctity of life?”

“I believe in the sanctity of life and I think that, like so many other Americans, I unfortunately felt joy because of that,” she replied.

Here is the segment:

Assuming she isn’t playing a character for fun – and we don’t think she is – Taylor Lorenz can definitely be classified as a grade A psychopath.

We already knew she was a bit strange. Earlier this month, she accused people who don’t wear masks of “destroying the air” in 2024. We also knew she was a bit pathetic. She made a name for herself and made a living doxxing people online, most notably as the creator of the Twitter account Libs of TikTok.

Lorenz spends most of her day harassing people online and then screams “ableism” when she’s criticized for it. She claims to suffer from autoimmune diseases.

But in the last week, it turns out that Lorenz is much worse than we thought. Celebrating, promoting and encouraging the murder of innocent people is abhorrent. The fact that we have to say shows how mentally unstable Lorenz is currently. In return, she deserves to be loathed.

It’s pretty insightful, isn’t it?

Sure, the health insurance industry is shameful. However, if murdering every fat cat who presides over a corrupt industry were excusable, there would be no CEO left in New York City, Los Angeles, or Silicon Valley.

So, of course, there is an argument that influential shows and websites should stop platforming Taylor Lorenz, even if they refute her comments. We disagree. Presenters like Piers Morgan should continue to have Lorenz as a guest – and thus expose her.

Lorenz’s comments about Thompson could constitute hate speech. If so, that’s all the more reason to highlight them. As we have long emphasized at OutKick, the answer to hate speech is not less speech. The answer to hate speech is more speech.

People with truly destructive thoughts will eventually convict themselves if you let them. So, leave them.

Like the Ivy League students who rallied for Hamas after the October 7 attack on Israel, Taylor Lorenz shows us exactly who she is. She vividly exposes herself (no pun intended) as unimaginably evil and clearly unemployed.

While her critics thought that before her recent outburst, there were readers, executives and media brands that still took her seriously — including the Washington Post, the New York Times and Vox.

It’s hard to imagine any of these outlets doing business with her in the future. Vox seemed to leak to the media over the weekend that this would not be the case.

The more Lorenz speaks, the more people realize that she is not worthy of their respect. And the more she celebrates the murder of a father of two, the less respect she deserves.

At this point, silencing, censoring, and ignoring them would only save them. Don’t save her. Let them dig their grave deeper. In a figurative sense, of course. Don’t make Taylor Lorenz a target for cancel culture. Let them cancel themselves.

This couldn’t happen to a better person.
