Double SpaceX rocket launch from Florida planned for last weekend of the year

SpaceX is hoping for two more rocket launches before the year ends – bringing Florida’s record year to 93 launches.

Warnings from the Federal Aviation Administration point to two possible launches in the coming days: another attempt by the Astranis mission and the SpaceX Starlink 12-6 mission.

First and foremost is the delayed Astranis mission. After weather delayed the launch of four satellites for Astranis Space Technologies, the launch attempt on Friday, December 20, suffered a rare last-second abort. SpaceX delayed the mission again the next evening and stated that they would back out of the launch after reviewing the data.

While SpaceX has not yet confirmed the confirmation, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Geospatial Navigational Warnings indicate that the company will make another attempt in the first hour of Sunday, December 29th. Launch is currently expected at midnight, but the time slot runs until 3:02 a.m. I’m on-demand. The launch will take place from Cape Canaveral Space Launch Complex 40 and the rocket will fly on a due east trajectory.

If this mission goes as planned, SpaceX Starlink 12-6 would be next in line in the first hours of Monday, December 30th. This mission is the next batch of SpaceX Starlink internet satellites. SpaceX has not yet confirmed this, but the launch window runs from midnight to 3:59 a.m. The launch will take place from Kennedy Space Center Pad 39A. As part of Starlink Group 12, this mission will follow a southeasterly trajectory.

In both missions, the first stage launchers will land on drone ships in the Atlantic – so sonic booms are not expected in Florida.
