Doug Gottlieb's UWGB loses to Michigan Tech after Adam Schefter spit

This hasn’t been the best time of the year for University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men’s basketball coach Doug Gottlieb.

Things have gotten worse for Gottlieb, the nationally known radio host and first-year coach whose Phoenix continues to struggle.

On Monday, Gottlieb took a left hook on social media from ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter after he questioned a report sent out by Schefter.

“Jeezus Shefty, edit what the agents are telling you…0.0% chance Sac State has $50 million in NIL,” Gottlieb responded on X to a Schefter post.

“Jeezus, Doug. A seven-game loss and last place in the Horizon League? Less time on social media and more time in the gym,” Schefter posted on X after initially responding to Gottlieb, who defended his reporting.

The difficult stretch for Gottlieb soon extended to the basketball court.

Early Wednesday afternoon, the Phoenix lost 72-70 to Michigan Tech, a Division II program in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, blowing a late lead.

Make things worse? After a loss to rival UW-Milwaukee last Wednesday, Gottlieb referred to schools outside of Phoenix’s DI area as “Nobody U” in response to a question from the Journal Sentinel.

“That’s why, like everyone else, you have to plan for a few D-2 (teams) early,” Gottlieb said. “I know the league thought, ‘You have these levels of who you need to schedule.’ One of the reasons I want to play against better teams is because it’s 2 degrees outside and it’s snowing. I don’t like the idea of Nobody U coming in here. I always thought, ‘What do we learn when we play a game where we win at 20?’ But there is a methodology that I need to adapt to the schedule in the future.

Green Bay, playing without the injured Anthony Roy, the country’s second-leading scorer, fell to 2-11 and extended its losing streak to eight games.
