HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Dozens of pediatric patients and their families in Hawaii were among the first in the world to see “Moana 2” before it hits theaters on Wednesday.

Patients at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children were treated to a special screening of “Moana 2” this week hosted by Disney and the Starlight Children’s Foundation.

“Disney has supported children’s hospitals for decades, dating back to the time of Walt Disney, and I have worked hard to uphold that legacy,” said Bob Iger, Disney CEO. “With the opening of ‘Moana 2’ next week, we had the opportunity to bring a great film to the people of this hospital – patients and staff alike.”

As part of the event, patients were able to play games and receive gifts.

The Starlight Children’s Foundation has also partnered with Disney to design new “Moana”-style hospital gowns for the hospital.

Rene Jong, mother of one of the patients, said the children were excited about the opportunity.

“Seeing ‘Moana 2’ for the first time is such an honor and so exciting,” said Jong.

“She (Moana) is definitely a role model for Pacific Islanders, and even more so, it (the film) shows her growing up and how much they can achieve by just being who they are without worrying about it having to do what other people think.”
