The New England Patriots are in the middle of a matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers in Foxborough on Saturday afternoon, but quarterback Drake Maye is dealing with some grief after suffering an injury.

Early in the first quarter, the rookie was eliminated from the contest after a hard hit from the Chargers’ cornerback Cam Hart. He was taken to the locker room and listed as questionable to return with a head injury. NFL Network’s Steve Wyche then gave an update on his status.

“You’ll see Jacoby Brissett “I will be sitting out the offense this time as Drake Maye is now questionable with a head injury,” Wyche reported. “He was taken back to the locker room by four medical staff without a helmet.”

Unfortunately, Maye left the game early in the first quarter. After the hit, he remained lying there for a few seconds before getting up and finally making his way to the medical tent. Finally, the former North Carolina star went to the locker room after being examined in the medical tent. He passed 1-1 for 1 yard before leaving the game.

Brissett took over after Maye was checked out, but the Patriots received some positive news afterward – Maye returned to the field and grabbed his helmet and head coach Jerod Mayo confirmed he will return to the game when New England returns to offense.

At 3-12, the Patriots are all about pride, but Maye has been an incredible bright spot. While his numbers aren’t perfect – he has 2,159 passing yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while also rushing for 389 yards and two touchdowns – his play is something New England is looking forward to in the future.

Next week the Patriots finish their regular season against the Buffalo Bills, who they also played last week. There’s valuable experience on the table for Drake Maye, so he can hopefully stay healthy in the final two weeks of his rookie season for New England.
