Broadcasters showed Mohammed Siraj bowled at 181.6km/h after a suspected speed gun malfunction at the Adelaide Oval.

India had little reason to smile when Stumps was called up on the first day of the second Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval and the team faced a tough challenge. However, an unusual incident in the closing session provided a brief moment of entertainment. As Mohammed Siraj stormed into the bowl, the speed gun malfunctioned, displaying an incredible delivery speed of 181.6 km/h. That was an incredible 20km/h faster than the current bowling speed record, leaving fans both stunned and amused by the apparent error.

Social media users noticed the discrepancy between Siraj’s ball and the speed shown in the broadcasts, leading to some funny reactions to the incident.

This moment occurred at the same moment as Siraj’s confrontation with Marnus Labuschagne. The Australian batsman retreated from the crease just as Siraj arrived in his delivery stride, resulting in the pacer throwing the ball towards the stumps in frustration and questioning Labuschagne in no uncertain terms as to what he was doing.

Replays showed the reason. Labuschagne backed down when a fan was seen running behind the screen with a stack of glasses high above his head, taking part in the mass Australian tradition of the beer queue and blowing up the Aussie batter in the process.

While Siraj was clearly frustrated by the incident, he tried to get two bouncers to Labuschagne to get his point across.

Siraj was wicketless on the first day as India fell behind

Earlier in the day, Mitchell Starc delivered a scintillating performance as he returned with figures of 6-48 to break through the Indian batting in two sessions, continuing the disappointing trend of the Indian batting falling apart at the start of Test matches.

Nitish Kumar Reddy was the only batsman to receive plaudits for a 42-run counterattack that also included some sumptuous strokeplay.

While Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Usman Khawaja relatively early in the response, he and the Indian bowling were unable to make the same impact as in Perth as Australia steadily inched their way to 86-1 comfortably at stumps with Labuschagne and Nathan McSweeney.
