During a routine stop, the California Highway Patrol runs into a monkey business

A routine traffic stop took an unusual turn when a California Highway Patrol officer stopped a Rolls-Royce in Madera County on Monday.

Officers stopped the 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost for speeding on Highway 99, but were surprised to find a spider monkey inside the car.

CHP noted that the discovery of the exotic animal in an exotic car made it particularly bizarre, “a traffic stop with a difference.”

The monkey is believed to be a month old and in California, owning primates as pets is illegal.

The driver, identified as Ali Mused Adel Mohamed, 27, was also found to be under the influence and was arrested for drunk driving and possession of cannabis for sale, police officials said.
