ABC sideline reporter Marty Smith reported three injuries to the Volunteers early in the second half.

“They’re increasing,” Smith said of the injuries. “I just heard you guys talking about Dylan Sampson. He has a lower body injury. It is questionable whether he will return. The same applies to Squirrel knows And Don’t’e Thornton. It looks like Dont’e Thornton is trying to give it a go, but he’s a little banged up too.”

Sampson had only completed two carries for six yards for Tennessee at the time of this writing. Shortly before the start of the second half, he could be seen warming up on the sideline and trying to get free.

But although he briefly joined the team, he did not get on the offensive in the first series of the second half.

White, meanwhile, had a catch for 17 yards, while Thornton had a catch for 14 yards. Tennessee’s offense relies heavily on quarterbacks Nico Iamaleava due to the injuries but coach Josh Heupel believes his team still has a chance and is down 21-10.

“Josh Heupel told me here at halftime that they have to control the line of scrimmage,” Smith reported. “They had a few busts defensively early on, but where they are now they’re doing well.”

Ohio State defeated Tennessee 296-147 in the first half.
