According to ESPN’s Tim McManus, Kenny Pickett was x-rayed after suffering a rib injury in the Philadelphia Eagles’ 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders.

Pickett took over the quarterback position for the injured Jalen Hurts, who left in the first quarter and later left with a concussion.

Midway through the first quarter, Hurts was eliminated after his head collided with the turf following a hit by Commanders linebacker Frankie Luvu, who made contact after Hurts completed a 13-yard run.

Coach Nick Sirianni said of Jalen Hurts after the game: “I haven’t spoken to the medical staff yet, so I don’t have any updates on any of this.”

Pickett stepped in and completed 14 of 24 passes for 143 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the loss.

After the game, Pickett announced that he had suffered a rib injury and would undergo further testing on Monday after he was tackled in the backfield by Commanders linebacker Bobby Wagner, according to McManus. Despite the injury, he stayed in the game and completed a drive that resulted in a successful field goal, giving the Eagles a 30-28 lead late in the fourth quarter.

Wide receiver AJ Brown praised the 26-year-old quarterback, emphasizing his poise and maturity despite only being in his third year in the league.

“I’m glad (Pickett) came in because it gives him confidence regardless of whether we won or lost,” Brown said, according to McManus. “God forbid anything happens (with Hurts in the future); he came in and got the experience.”
