Eagles secure NFC East with victory over Cowboys

After clinching their fourth straight playoff ticket, it took three more weeks of work to clinch the division, but the Eagles still enter the final game of regulation as the NFC’s No. 2 seed with a win in 11 of their last 12 Season.

Their only loss in that span came last week in a nail-biting confrontation with quarterback Jalen Hurts, who also missed Sunday’s game with a concussion. An otherwise stellar run helped turn a 2-2 bye record early in Week 5 into a 13-3 mark and the division title, fueled by a dominant running game behind Saquon Barkley and a stifling defense under coordinator Vic Fangio, which helped erase the bitter memory of last season’s 1-6 win.

Despite a great season, however, Philly has only a narrow path to the conference’s top seed – one that requires the Minnesota Vikings to lose on Sunday, the Detroit Lions to finish 0-2 and the Eagles to take care of business against the Giants in Week 18.

Sirianni acknowledged the odds and how they might or might not play against resting starters next Sunday.

“We’ll watch some games tonight and see how things go and then we’ll do what we have to do,” he said. “We always have to do the right thing for the football team to achieve our goals. There’s a lot to think about. We’ll enjoy this and then I’ll think about it tonight.”

If all of these results are incorrect, the Eagles will host the eventual No. 7 seed on Super Wild Card Weekend.
