Eagles WR AJ Brown explains viral reading moment in wild-card win, calls book ‘recipe’ for his mental game

“Man, it gives me a feeling of peace. This is a book that I bring to every single game. My teammates call it ‘the recipe,'” Brown said explained after the game. “It’s the first time I’ve heard that you have me on camera, but it’s not the first game. It’s got a lot of points, it’s a lot of mental game, it’s got a lot of mental aspects, and you know. For me, this game is mental.

“I firmly believe I can do anything and everything, but I have to make sure my mental state is good. That’s kind of how I refresh every drive, whether I score a touchdown or drop a pass, I always go back. Book every drive and just refocus and nothing matters , nothing happened, just rely on it again.”

While quarterback Jalen Hurts later confirmed that Brown does indeed carry this book with him on a regular basis, Brown’s mid-game ritual still sparked significant speculation that the decision to sit on the sidelines and read may have been due to frustration with how Sunday’s game was going was attributable.

Although Philadelphia took home the win, the passing offense was unable to get into a rhythm for most of the afternoon, with Brown falling by the wayside, recording just one catch for 10 yards on three targets, fewer than his total this season.

But Brown dismissed those theories, reiterating in a social media post after the game that the frustration had nothing to do with his reading habits.

“This game for me is 90% mental and 10% physical. I bring it to every game and read it between every drive,” Brown said wrote. “I use it to refocus and hold on regardless of what may happen in the game, good or bad. People tend to create controversy when they don’t know the truth.”

Fans will likely be waiting for another appearance from Brown’s book in the team’s divisional round matchup next weekend as they look to continue their quest for a return to the Super Bowl in what could be a fairytale ending to the Eagles’ impressive 2024 season.
