Panic is spreading in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Following a moderate seismic disturbance in Mulugu, tremors lasting about 5 seconds occurred between 7:15 a.m. and 7:20 a.m. on Wednesday.
Many people panicked as the vibrations shook window panes, utensils and beds, although there was no structural damage. “While I was sleeping, I noticed my bed shaking at 7:30 a.m. and I recognized it as seismic activity, having previously experienced similar events in the United States and my hometown of Uttar Pradesh. The tremors lasted about 8 to 10 seconds,” said Chandra Shekhar Sharma, an IIT professor based in Sangareddy.
The tremors caused concern among residents in western Hyderabad, where many high-rise buildings are located. These were felt in many parts of the city including Nanakramguda, Tellapur, Nallagandla and some parts of Sangareddy.
“When there were tremors for five seconds, we were initially confused about what was happening and got clarity only after getting information about seismic events in the state,” said E Ramana, a resident of Vasudeva Bloomfield Ecstasy in Tellapur.
This led to discussions among residents in many apartments about the seismic activity. “Around 7:30 a.m., I received an unexpected wave of calls from concerned residents reporting unusual occurrences. They described how their utensils vibrated on tables, while others noticed that their ceiling fans continued to sway even after they were turned off.
