Elden Ring: Nightreign is not a live service game and will not be available at full price

Despite its multiplayer focus, From Software doesn’t consider the newly revealed Elden Ring: Nightreign a live service game. The developer wants the co-op action RPG to be “a complete package out of the box,” and publisher Bandai Namco will price the package similarly to Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.

PC Gamer spoke with Elden Ring: Nightreign director Junya Ishizaki about whether the multiplayer-focused survival game might adopt live service mechanics, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. “With Nightreign, we wanted to have a game that felt like a complete package on the day of purchase, so everything was unlockable and everything was included with purchase,” Ishizaki said. “It’s not what we would call a live service game.”

Regarding the purchase of Elden Ring: Nightreign, PC Gamer added that Bandai Namco noted that the standalone experience will cost about the same as the Shadow of the Earth Tree expansion. The price at launch was $40 instead of the usual $60 to $70 for full versions today.

Announced at the Game Awards last night, Elden Ring: Nightreign will be set in an ever-changing location called the Limveld. Players choose from eight different characters before embarking on a dangerous adventure, alone or in a party of three, as they attempt to survive a “three days and night cycle” to ultimately defeat the Night Lord.

Described as a “compressed action RPG” by Bandai Namco, Elden Ring: Nightreign appears to be oriented towards rogue-like mechanics with unique runs and relics that are picked up with each attempt in Limveld. Publication is scheduled for 2025.
