Elsa Pataky reveals the only condition she gave Chris Hemsworth to move to Australia and the secret to her happy marriage with her ‘partner for life’

Elsa Pataky has revealed how her husband Chris Hemsworth persuaded her to move to Australia.

The Spanish actress, 48, lives in Byron Bay with her husband Chris, 41, and their three children – daughter India, 12, and twins Sasha and Tristan, 10.

But Elsa, who is originally from Madrid, admitted she suffered from a very specific illness before agreeing to give up her life and move Down Under almost ten years ago.

Speaking to Courier Mail, Elsa revealed how she told Chris she would only move to Australia if they lived on a sprawling farm where she could have horses.

“That was my deal with Chris,” she shared. “I said I was moving to Australia, but I wanted to live on property, a farm, and have horses, and he knew that.”

Luckily for Elsa, her dream came true and they now live in a sprawling $30 million eight-bedroom mansion that sits on a massive 10-acre estate in Broken Head.

Elsa also gave a candid insight into her relationship with Hollywood icon Chris and revealed their secret to a happy marriage despite the many challenges they faced.

“I think we all have this idea that this beautiful dream of marriage and loving each other and everything being perfect, but it’s a lot more work than you think,” she said.

“It comes with so many challenges, but it’s nice to grow into those challenges and learn from each other and learn how we change over the years and how we adapt to each other.”

“From the outside you might think a marriage is perfect, but everyone has their stuff and everyone needs a lot of work.”

Elsa and Chris tied the knot just ten months after they first met and will celebrate their 14th anniversary on December 22, although she confessed they rarely remember their anniversary.

While it may seem like a relationship faux pas, Elsa insisted the date is easy to forget because it’s so close to Christmas and said they laugh about it every year.

Elsa gushed about her husband and also admitted she had always wanted a “partner for life” as she revealed she wants to grow old with Thor actor Chris.

Elsa and Chris married in an impromptu ceremony while on holiday in Australia in December 2010, just three months after they first went public with their relationship.

Five years later they moved to Byron Bay after purchasing their forever home in the coastal paradise for $7.6 million.

Now they have been offered a unique opportunity to expand their vast estate on Byron Bay’s so-called ‘Golden Grid’.

In October, the nine-acre property neighboring her luxury Balinese-style property was put on the market for an undisclosed price.

Real estate insiders have estimated the luxury resort could fetch up to $34 million.

Although it could have been a lucrative purchase, the Daily Telegraph claimed the Hemsworths had made no attempt to express their interests in the palace complex.

The site last went under the hammer in 2011 for $6.3 million and is currently owned by oil and gas multimillionaire Russell Staley and his wife Jennifer.

The property, known as Ohana, is located in Broken Head in the Byron Bay hinterland, between the Hemsworths’ home and Seven Mile Beach.

Surrounded by bushland, the architect-designed home opens onto a 450-meter-long seafront promenade and features a series of pavilions that can accommodate 28 guests.
