End of an era: Taylor Swift ends her almost two-year tour with her final show in Vancouver

After nearly two years of sequins, glitter and exchanging friendship bracelets, Taylor Swift will make her final Eras Tour bow on Sunday night in Vancouver.

The pop superstar began her tour in March 2023 in Glendale, Arizona, and has since completed 149 shows across the United States, Canada, Latin America, Asia Pacific and Europe.

The setlist for the shows has changed over the course of the 21-month tour with the release of Swift’s latest album. The Tortured Poets Departmentin April 2024.

Thousands of fans from around the world traveled to Vancouver to see Swift’s final three performances. Officials said up to 70 per cent of ticket holders were not from the Vancouver area, including about 40 per cent international travellers.

As tickets for their final shows sold out, resale Vancouver tickets were offered online for $2,000. But in a last-minute surprise the week before her Vancouver performances, Swift’s team released a portion of the $16 tickets for backstage seating.

BC Place, where Swift is performing in Vancouver, erected fences around the venue to prevent “Tayl-gating” parties – where fans without tickets usually show up to enjoy the vibe and sing along.

But that didn’t stop ticketless Swifties from dancing outside the fences in the rain during their first show in Vancouver on Friday.

Those who had tickets received special light-up wristbands upon entry into the stadium.

The wristbands flashed different colored lights during Swift’s performance, creating a sparkling effect in the stadium.

Swift explained to the audience that there was a reason Canada and Vancouver were chosen as the final stop on her Five Continents Tour.

“Where were the crowds so generous, so welcoming, so warm? Where do they know every single word? And they don’t just sing them, they scream them too? Oh, we have to go back to Canada, and so here we are in beautiful Vancouver,” she said.

A film crew seen on stage with her fueled speculation that a new documentary may be in the works.

Taylor Swift takes the stage for the final shows of the Eras Tour

Pop superstar Taylor Swift received a rapturous welcome at BC Place on Friday for the first of three sold-out shows in Vancouver this weekend, capping her year-long Eras Tour.

Restrooms at BC Place Stadium were temporarily remodeled ahead of shows as up to 95 percent of concertgoers were expected to be female.

According to Destination Vancouver, the Swift shows will have an estimated economic impact of $157 million for the city. In Toronto, where Swift played six shows before heading to the West Coast, the concerts grossed about $282 million.

The touring trade magazine Pollstar predicted last year that the tour would gross a total of about $2.2 billion – an all-time tour record.
