Epic Games is partnering to bring its store to Telefonica devices

Epic Games announced today that it has entered into a long-term partnership with telecommunications service provider Telefonica. As part of the partnership, the Epic Games Store will now be more accessible to Telefónica Android device owners. The store will also come pre-installed on compatible Android devices on the Telefonica network, including “Samsung devices in Spain, the UK, Germany and Spanish-speaking Latin America.”

This new partnership is an extension of Epic’s efforts to make its games and store more accessible to consumers on mobile devices, bypassing the platforms owners’ stores and payment mechanisms. Epic also recently sued Google and Samsung for allegedly making it prohibitively difficult for gamers to install the EGS on their devices. Telefonica devices that come pre-installed with the Epic Game Store would simplify the installation process.

Telefonica and Epic have worked together in the past, with the former being the first to introduce direct carrier billing on the Epic Games Store. Lorena Itziar Senador-Gómez Lázaro, director of partnerships and devices at Telefónica, said in a statement: “With this collaboration with Epic Games, we strengthen our relationship and go a step further in providing high-quality, accessible and innovative digital experiences for our customers. “

Michael Modon, senior director of growth partnerships at Epic, added: “Thanks to our partnership with Telefonica, players can now access the Epic Games Store, Fortnite and soon games from third-party developers directly on their Android device.” We look forward to to expand our collaboration with Telefonica to offer even more benefits to players.”
