Evacuations, school closures and road closures for Franklin Fire in Malibu – NBC Los Angeles

Hundreds of firefighters continue to battle the flames of the Franklin Fire, which broke out in the Malibu area Monday evening.

The fire is currently burning 2,200 acres near Pepperdine University, prompting closures and evacuations.

Evacuation orders

Evacuation orders have been issued for the following areas:

  • South of Piuma Road
  • North of the Pacific Coast Highway
  • East of Las Virgenes Road and Malibu Road
  • West of Carbon Beach Terrace

Evacuation warnings

Evacuation warnings have been issued for the following areas:

  • East of Las Virgenes between Mulholland Highway to the north and Piuma Road to the south.
  • Between Stunt Road in the north and Los Flores in the south
  • East of Carbon Beach Terrace, west of Old Malibu Road, north of Pacific Crest Highway to the evacuation boundary
  • Topanga Zones 8 and 10

school closings

Pepperdine University students were ordered to shelter in place, prompting the school to release a statement on social media. But as of 8:05 a.m., the shelter-in-place order was lifted.

All schools in the Santa Monica-Malibu school district were also closed due to the fire.

Road closures

According to Caltrans, the Pacific Coast Highway is closed. except during evacuations, between Topanga Canyon Blvd and Corral Canyon Road.

Shelters

Shelter has been set up at the Palisade Rec Center at 851 Alma Real Drive in Pacific Palisades.

The center is open to anyone displaced by the wildfire. Pets are also welcome in carriers and crates.
