Evaluating Texas Tech football on Tahj Brooks’ career day, loss to WVU

Tahj Brooks rushed for a career-high 188 yards and three touchdowns and Behren Morton rushed for 359 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Texas Tech football team to a 52-15 win over West in the Jones Big 12 regular-season finale on Saturday Virginia AT&T Stadium.

On its first seven possessions, Tech scored two Gino Garcia field goals and then five touchdowns to build a 42-3 lead early in the third quarter. The Red Raiders effectively tied the game in the final two minutes of the first half. Brooks rushed 37 yards for a touchdown with 1:35 left, and Jalin Conyers converted two scores for a 28-3 lead.

Then Terrell Tilmon caused a fumble and Brenden Jordan recovered it at the WVU 35-yard line. Morton hit Brooks and set up a 2-yard TD from Brooks with 9 seconds left before halftime.
