Everton v Liverpool has been postponed as the Merseyside derby was canceled due to a storm

The Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park has been postponed due to adverse weather conditions caused by Storm Darragh in the UK.

The announcement was made at 8:30am GMT by local authorities after severe weather warnings were issued across the Merseyside region, with winds of up to 70mph and heavy rainfall posing a significant safety risk for all fans traveling to the game.

The Premier League has not yet confirmed a date for the game to be rescheduled and said further information will be released in due course.

Both clubs have issued a joint statement on the postponement, saying: “Following a meeting of the Safety Advisory Group at Goodison Park this morning, attended by officials from both clubs, as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that “Due to the threat to safety in the area caused by strong gusts of wind and a yellow strong wind warning which remains in effect until 6am on Sunday, today’s game should be postponed for safety reasons.”

The game was due to be Everton’s final Premier League home game against local rivals Liverpool at Goodison Park before the Toffees leave their 132-year-old home next season for their new 52,000-seat stadium at Bramley Moore Dock.

Liverpool, on the other hand, were hoping to get back to winning ways after a thrilling 3-3 draw at Newcastle, where Chelsea and Arsenal reduced their lead at the top of the Premier League to seven points after both Chelsea and Arsenal won their respective games under of the week.

In last season’s Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, Everton recorded their first home Premier League win against their local rivals for the first time in 14 years, having beaten Liverpool 2-0 in April to significantly dent the Reds’ title bid.
