Saturday’s Merseyside derby between Everton and Liverpool has been postponed due to Storm Darragh.

Just over three hours before kick-off, Everton released a statement announcing the postponement due to “adverse weather conditions”, with most of the UK hit by strong winds and heavy rain.

Winds of up to 90mph lashed Britain, with the city of Liverpool under a “yellow strong wind warning” until early Sunday.

Everton statement on game against Liverpool postponed

Everton’s Premier League game against Liverpool, scheduled to take place at 12:30pm (GMT) today, Saturday December 7, has been postponed.

Following a Safety Advisory Group meeting at Goodison Park this morning, attended by officials from both clubs as well as representatives from Merseyside Police and Liverpool City Council, it was decided that this was due to the risk to safety in the area due to the strong winds Gusts and an amber high wind warning remaining in place until 6am on Sunday meant today’s game should be postponed for safety reasons.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused and thank supporters for their understanding. While we realize this will be a huge disappointment for fans, the safety of fans, staff and players is of the utmost importance.

Information regarding a new date for the game will be announced in due course. All tickets purchased for the original game remain valid for the rearranged game.
