The Jaguars’ terrible 2024 season took another turn for the worse in Week 16 when Jacksonville fell to the Las Vegas Raiders – who entered the contest as the NFL’s worst team, according to the Week 15 2025 NFL Draft Order – 19-14.

Below is everything Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson said following Jacksonville’s latest loss.

On whether Pederson is frustrated with the Jaguars’ level of performance and mistakes at inopportune times:

DOUG PEDERSON: “Yeah, you kind of summed it up. You’re right, it’s not the lack of effort, the lack of physicality, all of that. These guys play hard. But the mistakes, penalties, things that have held us back all season. “I think it’s going to be frustrating for us as coaches and players until we fix the problem.

If there is any self-doubt affecting the Jaguars’ ability to win close games:

DOUG PEDERSON: “I’m sure there are. I’m sure if a bad play or a penalty happens and it sets you back a little bit, I think there might be a little bit – where we are in our season, I’m sure. “The boys will feel that . But it’s the courage, the determination, but we just couldn’t overcome some setbacks.”

If it’s difficult to concentrate this time of year:

DOUG PEDERSON: “What do you mean ‘this time of year’?”

If it’s difficult to concentrate at this point in a losing season:

DOUG PEDERSON: “I’m sure there’s some of that. I’m sure you’re only human and things didn’t go the way we wanted this season. And as disappointing as that is, you will feel that feeling. It’s easy.” I think everyone deals with it a little differently, but it’s the mental strength that we have. And we just try to do our best to get out of bad plays, mistakes, etc. it is. I try to move on to the next piece.

Whether Pederson can be happy about rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr.’s success despite the Jaguars’ record:

DOUG PEDERSON: “Yes, I’m so happy for Brian. We spoke last week. He’s such a bright spot on offense, giving up a thousand yards and stuff like that. Just a kid who is so deserving, from the way he works. “To the way he plays and the stress we put on a young player, so happy for him, definitely a bright spot.”

On whether Pederson has ever seen an easier touchdown play on Thomas Jr.’s 62-yard reception touchdown:

DOUG PEDERSON: “The reporting was probably broken, that’s what it looked like. And we needed a play because I think BT (Brian Thomas Jr.) dropped one early, being the type of kid he is, it’s never an easy play, but we got help with that.

How difficult it was to cope with the pre-snap:

DOUG PEDERSON: “These are the inconsistencies. I would say (Raiders head coach) Coach (Antonio) Pierce probably says the same thing about his team. But where we are as a football team and what a year we’ve had, we just can’t make mistakes like that and expect to win. That’s probably hard to overcome and try to move on, I guess.

On the Jaguars’ lack of insight in the last five games:

DOUG PEDERSON: “Today we had chances again. A few balls were tipped and had chances, and that’s part of creating the takeaways. And we had two big, costly ball losses. But again, it’s not for lack of effort and all that.” But it’s an area that we just have to keep working on, all week long. You have to keep concentrating on the game. You could see that our guys don’t jump towards us doing things like that.

On whether Pederson was surprised by P. Logan Cooke’s ugly punt:

DOUG PEDERSON: “Yes, that surprised me. I know he definitely wants that back. But of course we know that Logan (Cooke) is a great player, just out of character for him and his ability, but definitely a player that he would like to have back.”
