In a September 3 Instagram post, John revealed that he suffered a “severe” eye infection over the summer that resulted in reduced vision in one eye. The infection occurred while he was in southern France.

“I am recovering, but it is an extremely slow process and it will take some time before the affected eye can see again,” he said. “I am so grateful for the excellent medical and nursing team and my family who have taken such good care of me over the last few weeks.”

“I have spent the summer quietly recovering at home and am positive about the progress I have made so far in my healing and recovery,” he added.

John jokes: “There’s not much left of me”

The artist joked about his health issues while speaking at the New York premiere of his documentary Elton John: Never too late.

“I don’t have tonsils, adenoids or an appendix. I don’t have a prostate. “I don’t have a right hip or a left knee or a right knee,” he said People. “In fact, all I have left is my left hip.”
