Jensen Huang, President and CEO of Nvidia, opened the presentation by announcing the RTX 50 series graphics cards. The RTX 50 series is based on the latest Blackwell GPU architecture and includes fifth-generation Tensor cores and fourth-generation ray tracing cores.

Here are Nvidia’s graphics card announcements:

  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070 – $549, February 2025 release
  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 5070 Ti – $749, releasing in February 2025
  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 5080 – $999, releasing January 30th
  • Nvidia Geforce RTX 5090 – $1,999, releasing January 30th

Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture supports GDDR7 memory, advanced PCIe Gen 5 and DisplayPort 2.1b UHBR20 ports. The GPU also introduces neural shaders that can help massively compress game texture data. Nvidia also confirmed that the impressive Witcher 4 reveal trailer was pre-rendered in Unreal Engine 5 on a GeForce RTX 5090.

The flagship RTX 5090 features 21760 CUDA cores, 3352 AI TOPS, 318 TFLOPS, 32GB GDDR7 VRAM and can accelerate up to 2.41GHz. The lower-end RTX 5070 features 6144 CUDA cores, 988 AI TOPS, 94 TFLOPS, 12GB GDDR7 VRAM and can accelerate up to 2.51GHz.

Nvidia features announced for Nvidia Broadcast and content creators

For AI evangelists and content creators, the new RTX 50 Series NVENC encoders can encode HEVC and AV1 videos up to 5% faster. The updated Nvidia decoder can decode and play back up to “eight 4K60 4:2:2 video streams” simultaneously. The RTX 50 Series also supports professional 4:2:2 color format, Multiview HEVC (MV-HEVC) for 3D and virtual reality (VR) videos, and a new AV1 Ultra High Quality mode. These features will be available in Davinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, Capcut and Wondershare Filmora starting February 2025.

The Nvidia Broadcast app is also updated with two new effects: Studio Voice and Virtual Key Light. Live streamers using Streamlabs can now deploy an AI agent with NVIDIA ACE and Inworld AI to interact with and manage the stream. There are many more AI announcements that you can read about in the official Nvidia blog post.

Late last year, Nvidia showed me the future of AI in gaming, but I wasn’t convinced. It looks like the company’s push for more AI features in the core game might change my mind.

DLSS 4 includes multi-frame generation, exclusive to the RTX 50 series

DLSS 4 adds support for what Nvidia calls multi-frame generation, a technique that “generates up to three additional frames per traditionally rendered frame” to produce more than twice as many frames compared to DLSS 3.5.

All of Nvidia’s DLSS features such as beam reconstruction and super-resolution are supported by a transformer-based model that replaces the Convolutional Neural Network model. Nvidia confirmed that 75 games will support DLSS 4 at launch, including Indiana Jones and the Great Circle And Marvel Rivals. Owners of RTX 40 series GPUs can also benefit from improved DLSS frame generation. According to the company, its latest frame generation model is “40% faster” and “uses 30% less VRAM.”

In an example scene Cyberpunk 2077Enabling DLSS 4 frame generation results in 246 fps versus 141 fps on the GeForce RTX 5090, which is almost twice the improvement.

RTX 50 series owners can also force DLSS 4 features such as multi-frame generation for unsupported games via the Nvidia app. DLSS 4 will be available in upcoming games like Doom: The Dark Ages, Dune: Awakening, And Black state at startup.

Nvidia also announced Reflex 2 with “frame warp technology” that is said to reduce latency by up to 75%. In an example The finaleReflex 2 reduces PC latency from 27 ms to 14 ms compared to the previous version. The latency-reducing technology will be introduced in the year Valorant And The finale First on RTX 50 series GPUs, later on older generation RTX GPUs.

GeForce RTX 50 series gaming laptops benefit from improved battery life and performance

The new laptops with GeForce RTX 50 series mobile graphics cards benefit from up to “40% longer battery life” thanks to efficiency improvements from Blackwell Max-Q. The mobile Geforce RTX 5090 has 7,680 CUDA cores, 1,334 AI TOPS and 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM, which is a big difference from its desktop counterpart.

The RTX 5070 laptop GPU will feature 4,608 CUDA cores, 798 AI TOPS, and 8GB of GDDR7 VRAM, which is significantly reduced compared to the desktop RTX 5070 GPU.

Laptops with Geforce RTX 50 series GPUs will hit the market in March, with new models from popular manufacturers like Acer Predator Helios 16 AI, Alienware 16 Area-51 and more.

Geforce NOW Cloud Gaming is coming to Steam Deck and in India

Geforce NOW, the cloud game streaming service, is coming to Steam Deck. Nvidia announced that a native Geforce NOW Steam Deck app is in development that supports 4K 60fps gameplay with HDR. The Steam Deck OLED was already the best PC handheld and gets even better with native cloud streaming. You can also connect the deck to an external supported monitor to play games at 1440p and 120 frames per second via Geforce NOW.

Nvidia is also launching GeForce RTX 4080 processor-powered data centers in India and Latin America, with the former receiving Geforce NOW in the first half of 2025. The service is also adding new games at launch, including the one from Obsidian Explained and id software Fall: The Dark Ages.

The service will also expand to additional VR devices with expanded functionality, starting with Meta Quest 3 and 3S, Pico headsets and Apple Vision Pro.

That’s not all in the world of handhelds, as AMD also announced its new Ryzen Z2 processors for the Lenovo Legion Go and other handhelds at CES. Atari is also introducing a new handheld console called Gamestation Go at the convention.
