Lights, TV specials, shopping deals, holiday parties, event planning, and many other things distract attention from the heart of the holiday season. However, these things also make it so difficult to wait for Christmas. Even though it happens every year, the anticipation of Christmas never ends. It may change depending on age, but it never really goes away. Rather, it simply reinvents itself. With that in mind, Hillary Scott confirmed this fact by speaking to American Songwriter about her latest song and family collaboration, “Hard To Wait For Christmas.”

Written by Scott, her husband Chris Tyrrell and their 11-year-old daughter Eisele Kaye, the tune couldn’t be a better way to celebrate family holiday spirit. In short, it’s a fun song, but there are a few lyrics in it that will leave you deeply unsettled about this holiday season.

Emphasizing the song’s wholesome theme, Hillary Scott explained, “In our hearts, as a family, the song simply encourages other families to have fun together this holiday season” and “Just to be playful with each other.” Why this playfulness Scott and hers The reason family seems to mean so much is because it was this playfulness that partly inspired the song.

The embedded lesson in Advent calendars

Advent calendars, most people know them and if you grew up with them as a child, you know how painfully annoying they can be. Well, Scott’s twin daughters had a similar attitude towards the calendar because when Scott and Tyrrell were given their twin daughters Advent calendars for the 2023 holiday season, all they wanted to do was open every single day right away. You can’t blame them, what child enjoys waiting for gifts and presents?

Scott, Tyrrell and Eisele then wanted to teach the twins the importance of waiting and patience. Well, the conversation not only conveyed an invaluable message to the little ones, but it also gave the world an invaluable Christmas song. Following the conversation, the three family members sat down together and impressively wrote “Hard To Wait For Christmas” in one go.

Hillary Scott is “such a beaming, proud mother”

This song offers timeless messages and jubilant joy to families celebrating Christmas. However, it also has great meaning for Hillary Scott as the mother of her talented daughter Eisele. “When I watch our oldest, and you know, her talent, her ability, her voice and her lyrical ability, it’s just such a proud mother,” Scott revealed.

Hillary Scott and Eisele’s favorite line is ‘Cause if I’m honest, it feels good / To give more than I get. Designed by her and her daughter, Scott couldn’t be a prouder mother when it comes to her 11-year-old daughter’s understanding of such a mature sentiment. Scott explained, “Every time we hear the song and that line comes up, I get a lump in my throat.” As a mother, Scott is very impressed with her daughter because she understands a thought that most children have at such a young age not understand for years.

Scott praised her daughter’s smart nature, saying, “She’s a deep thinker and a big feeler” and “I’m just very, very proud of my girl.”

For Scott and her family, giving is better than receiving

This song and its design gave the Scott family an unforgettable Christmas memory filled with holiday spirit and sentimental truths. In fact, Scott said, “It will forever be a Christmas memory for her and her family.” However, these wholesome joys and sentimental truths don’t begin and end with family, as Scott hopes this song can reach and touch families everywhere.

“Whether grandparents or grandchildren, all generations. “I feel like this song and its playfulness still speaks to big themes surrounding the holidays” and “It can really be a bridge to conversations about what it means to be in the holiday season,” Scott explained. She followed up the statement by saying, “I just feel like everyone needs to get along.” Amazon and order a pack of kazoos for $4 and put on the song and pretend to play the trumpet” and most of all, “have fun.”

So as much as this song means to Hillary Scott and her family, she wants it to mean the same to all the other families who hear the song. A true holiday song that contains true holiday joy and messages. Kudos to Hillary Scott, Eisele, Chris Tyrrell and their twin daughters for creating a festive family anthem.
