DETROIT – The temperature Sunday afternoon where the Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills play their respective home games is about the same, around 40 degrees, but the weather conditions are very different.

Detroit is cloudy and humid, with intermittent rain around Ford Field. In Orchard Park, NY, where the Bills play, about 30 inches of snow has accumulated, according to Shaun Vetter.

The New Yorker and his family traveled to Detroit for the Week 15 game between the Lions and Bills, their first meeting since Thanksgiving 2022, when Buffalo earned a 28-25 victory at Ford Field.

When both teams take the field, Vetter expects it to be another close duel, but expects a high-scoring result.

“I think it will be close. Hopefully it’s a shootout,” he told MLive. “I hope we have a really good game. (They’re) two of the best teams in the league, I think. In my opinion, the Bills can come out on top at 35-31.”

Currently, the Lions and Bills have the two highest scoring offenses in the NFL. The Lions average 32.1 points per game while the Bills average 30.5 points.

The Bills’ offense is led by quarterback Josh Allen, who is the favorite to win this season’s MVP, according to multiple sportsbooks. Allen has thrown for 3,033 yards and 23 touchdowns with five interceptions and completed about 64% of his passes. On the ground, he passed for 419 yards and nine touchdowns.

Opposite Allen is Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who hovers between third and fourth in the MVP odds and is arguably having the more MVP-worthy year as he leads the Lions at 12-1. Goff has thrown for 3,265 yards and 25 touchdowns with 10 interceptions while completing 72% of his passes.

For the Vetter family, Sunday’s game at Ford Field is more than just a trip to watch the Bills play – it’s part of a growing family tradition.

Two years ago, Vetter and his mother Helen, who will accompany him at Sunday’s game, embarked on a unique journey to accomplish a significant fan achievement.

“We decided to try to get to all the NFL stadiums before I die. So Ford Field was on our list, and here we are,” she shared. The Lions’ home stadium is the fourth the family has visited in recent years.

“We were hoping for New Orleans next, but I think we’ll be home there next year. Next up is probably the Steelers (Acrisure Stadium) and then maybe Cleveland (Huntington Bank Field).”

When asked how her trip to Detroit had been so far, Helen Vetter replied: “Wonderful. Every trip with my son is a great trip.”

The Week 15 Lions-Bills game begins at 4:25 p.m. ET on CBS.
