Fans fill Kyle Field for renewed rivalry

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – More than 109,000 people filled Kyle Field Saturday night to witness the return of a historic and storied rivalry.

“I’m so happy it’s here. “It’s one of college football’s great rivalries, dating back to the 19th century,” former Texas A&M head football coach RC Slocum said before the game. “That’s how it should be.”

The cheers from the Aggies and Longhorns echoed throughout the stadium.

“It’s great to have this back,” said Lisa Sawyer of Arlington. “In my family there are three Longhorns and two Aggies. I married an Aggie and joined that A&M season ticket crew.”

Several high-profile celebrities graced the sidelines. Texas superfan Matthew McConaughey was seen on the Longhorn sideline. Texas Governor Greg Abbott was honored before the game. Pictures of Drew Brees and Johnny Manziel have been spotted on social media.

Whether you wore maroon or dark orange, fans agreed it was great to see the two teams play a football game for the first time since 2011.

“I’m super happy to have this rivalry back,” said Ray Camacho of Austin. “I think there’s a lot of history here. And listen, Texas will always be divided, but it’s the right path.”
