Fans name their picks for the Cowboys’ next head coach – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

said Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones that the team would “immediately begin a search operation” on Monday to find one Replacement for Mike McCarthy.

Jones announced Monday that the team and its former head coach have parted ways, ending the McCarthy era with a 49-35 record but just 1-3 in the playoffs and never advancing past the divisional round.

Many Cowboys fans outside The Star in Frisco said they expected it.

“I think it’s time for a change,” said Andy Reglin of Allen. “I think McCarthy came in and did his best.”

Now attention turns to who might coach the Cowboys next.

Names like Lane Kiffin and Kliff Kingsbury are mentioned by our partners as possible candidates The Dallas Morning News.

There is also no shortage of names and ideas from fans.

“Maybe they want to look at Deion Sanders. If he ever left Colorado, that could be a good fit,” Argyle’s Derrick Shelby suggested.

Brad Routh, who visited The Star on Monday with his wife and son and lives in the Washington, D.C., area, said a more established offensive player would be a better fit.

“We need a hard hitter, maybe not Deion yet,” Routh said. “I don’t think he’s ready, but a Ben Johnson (offensive coordinator) from the Lions is.”

Other names we heard from fans Monday: Nick Saban, who had a brief, unsuccessful stint as Dolphins coach between national championship successes at LSU and, most notably, Alabama before retiring last year.

Former Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore is another name that fans are mentioning. Moore is now offensive coordinator with the Eagles, who will play in the NFC Divisional Round on Sunday on NBC 5 and stream on Peacock.

The Cowboys haven’t played in an NFC championship game since 1995, the same year the team won its fifth Super Bowl title.

Of the previous nine head coaches in franchise history, all appeared in the playoffs except Dave Campo, who went 15-33 in three seasons.
