Fantasy Football: Week 17 Sleepers to Help Boost Your Title Challenge

Like every other week, there were hits and misses on the sleeper side last week. Jalen McMillan scored again and Alexander Mattison snuck into the top 20 as a running back. Drake Maye was solid. Of course, Aaron Rodgers was a brick, Brenton Strange appeared to be on the bench and although Antonio Gibson collected 12 touches he did little with it.

We hope your Championship Week lineup is full of stars and players who are basically starting themselves. However, if you are looking for support, here are some players you should consider.

This is my favorite game of the week, up-and-coming Okonkwo versus a second-division team from Jacksonville that has been a mess all year. Okonkwo’s play with Mason Rudolph has peaked over the past two weeks (8-59-0, 9-81), and Rudolph has been announced as the Week 17 starter. Most of the Yahoo crew has Okonkwo safely inside the TE1 cut line.

It feels like cheating to use McMillan again, but he’s below the 50% limit, so let’s repeat the usual words. He’s No. 2 in a good passing game and the scoring should flow easily against the Panthers (total points are 48.5). The only concern is that Carolina’s defense is more vulnerable to the running game. So you’re hoping Tampa Bay’s scoring isn’t too biased toward its talented defensemen. But with McMillan scoring four touchdowns in the last three games and establishing a reliable target share, I’m not afraid to use him proactively.

Young has started running proactively in recent weeks, with touchdowns in two straight games and a season-high 68 yards rushing last week. He should also find plenty of passing lanes on Sunday against a Tampa Bay defense that is the third-easiest group to score against. Tampa Bay usually plays pinball games, and hopefully Young can hold up his end of the bargain.

The script likely won’t matter for Abdullah, as he’s the starter in the passing game and has 12 catches in the last two weeks. And he was also useful as a runner against Jacksonville, hauling in seven carries for 38 yards and a score. New Orleans’ defense has fallen apart – you saw that in Green Bay on Monday – and I’m confident Abdullah can get back past double-digit scoring numbers.

To consider this game you need to be in a bigger league – at least 14 managers, maybe more. But Boutte has shown some rapport with Drake Maye lately, throwing for a great sideline touchdown and clicking on a 2-point conversion against the Colts last week. Boutte has scored 18 goals in his last three games, and it’s possible New England will be forced to shoot aggressively in the second half as the favored Chargers build a lead. If Boutte creates even the slightest separation, Maye can find him.

Another deep cut for those in the jumbo leagues. First, the downside: Mac Jones is the quarterback and Tennessee’s secondary wasn’t bad. But Washington caught all six of its targets last week and rushed for 54 yards on consecutive games. In fact, in the most recent logs (Week 13), he posted an underwhelming 21.3 point performance against Houston. If one of your regular wideouts is unavailable this week, Washington could be the boom replacement you’re looking for.
