Final result Lakers vs. Hawks: LeBron’s 30 points are enough for the win

Another strong performance from LeBron James, coupled with great performances from Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves, led the Lakers to close out their home opener with back-to-back wins, defeating the Hawks 117-100.

After a great night against the Blazers, LeBron James stayed red-hot, scoring 30 points on 13-20 shooting. He passed Michael Jordan for the most games with 30+ points in NBA history. Anthony Davis finished with 18 points, 19 rebounds, four assists, three steals and three blocks.

Austin Reaves once again struggled to shoot the ball, but posted 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists. Rui Hachimura had 13 points and eight rebounds and Dalton Knecht had 13 points off the bench.

A loss of the ball by the Lakers started the game, but this was followed by a missed shot by the Hawks. AD followed his first shot, which he missed, with a putback dunk. The Lakers then ran an excellent fast break with LeBron passing to Austin for a layup.

Atlanta’s Dyson Daniels got off to a strong start, quickly scoring five points. The Hawks went up by five, but their lack of defense helped the Lakers step up on offense and turn it into a back-and-forth affair.

At halftime, Los Angeles went up by seven after a 14-2 winning run. Atlanta missed its shots because LA tightened its defense. The Hawks showed fighting spirit and stepped up their defense.

Cam Reddish, who had been struggling behind the arc, finally managed to knock one down. The Hawks made a good push at the end of the quarter and cut the Lakers’ lead to just three.

The Lakers collapsed defensively, allowing Atlanta’s Jalen Johnson to dunk early in the second period. Dalton’s three-pointer helped Los Angeles take a five-point lead. As we have already seen, the game between these two teams was close throughout, with neither team able to gain a large lead.

Dalton made another three-pointer, which was a welcome sight given his heavy slump from behind the arc. Both teams struggled on three-pointers, with the Hawks shooting 30% and the Lakers 33.3%.

LA started playing sloppy and committed seven turnovers. Atlanta stayed within striking distance and kept the Lakers’ lead at about five. Dalton sank another 3-pointer and was perfect on three attempts.

The Lakers’ energy was high, Max then threw a 3-pointer and LA had an eight-point lead at halftime.

Los Angeles’ lead grew to double digits early in the second half. Austin scored a three-pointer to start the game. An exceptional defensive play from AD led to a 3-pointer from LeBron on the other end.

Austin had a slow offensive night as the Hawks covered him well. He hit a much-needed 3-pointer as the Hawks got back into the game. Still, it was a five-point game after a dunk from Atlanta’s Onyeka Okongwu.

Dorian Finney-Smith finally attempted a 3-pointer and sank it. He knocked over another one. While the Hawks tried to keep the ball tight, the Lakers took the lead by 10 at the end of the third period.

The final frame began with a floater from LeBron. Both teams played chaotically and failed to convert many of their shot attempts. Dorian had a 3-pointer blocked, but stayed in the game and drove to the basket for a layup.

After an assist from Cam, LeBron scored with a clever reverse layup. LA’s lead was 11 with 7:45 left. LeBron began to take the lead, scoring with a three-pointer and a fadeaway. He went crazy and had the Hawks cooking again with his patented turnaround fadeaway shot.

Rui joined the party by knocking down a three-pointer. Austin added one of his own. Garbage time came when both teams emptied their bench.

Key Takeaways:

What else is there to say about LeBron at this point? He is incredible.

Dalton lives! A much-needed game that breaks the slump from the LA rookie. Hopefully he can keep that up.

The turnovers were terrible tonight, finishing with 17. Turnovers helped the Hawks stay as close as possible for most of the game before the Lakers broke free in the second half.

The Lakers’ next game is against the Houston Rockets on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. PT.
