🚨SUNDAY: FIRST ALARM WEATHER DAY

A strong cold front brings a slight risk of isolated severe storms on Sunday.

👀 HOME TOWNS AFFECTED | The Storm Prediction Center has placed the entire viewing area under severe danger for Sunday. The area of ​​most concern is yellow (level 2/5) and includes hometowns in the south and parts of central Virginia.

⏱️TIMING | We will pursue a Heavy rain line running from west to east directly in front of the cold front. This line may cause localized severe weather in our hometowns. This is what the latest data suggests.

⚠️THREATS | The biggest risks are damaging wind gusts and localized flash flooding. We are also monitoring for a very low risk of an isolated, developing tornado and some hail.

🔔WARNINGS | The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a wind advisory for the yellow areas until 4 p.m. Gusts could be as strong as 50 miles per hour, causing isolated power outages and downed trees.

This will not be a widespread severe event, but it is important to have multiple options for receiving weather alerts.

LAST DAYS OF THE YEAR

We’ll get a break from the rain on Monday, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 60s.

The break will be short-lived, however, as another cold front arrives on New Year’s Eve. This will bring off-and-on showers throughout the day and trigger light mountain snow into early Wednesday morning.

The start of 2025 is cool and dry

We start the new year with highs in the 30s and 40s and lows in the 20s. The forecast looks dry and windy for the second half of this week.
