Flick is making a big change

FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick will make a big change in his defense when the La Liga leaders host Leganes in Montjuic on Sunday.

You would have thought the Catalans could have gone into the clash one point behind bitter rivals Real Madrid – thus squandering what was once a six-point lead – because Carlo Ancelotti’s men had beaten Rayo Vallecano on Saturday.

At one point Rayo were leading 2-0 and equalized after Rodrygo made it 3-2, but Rayo did Barca a huge favor by holding the reigning champions to a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Ahead of the mammoth showdown with Atletico Madrid in six days, Barca can be four points ahead with a win over Leganes.

“Leganes is tomorrow and we are not thinking about Atlético,” Flick said when asked about rotations to rest players for Diego Simeone’s side at a pre-match press conference on Saturday.

“They have to choose the same team, they have played together in the last few games. We have players of great quality on the bench. It’s good to do some rotations, but we haven’t decided yet. There might be (some),” he further teased.

Due to a two-game suspension, Flick was unable to lead from the dugout and said he told his team “it’s up to us.”

“We have to play with 100 percent concentration. All opponents are looking for weaknesses, they will fight for points, but it will depend on us. We accept Leganes’ visit with the utmost concentration,” emphasized the German.

A big change for Leganes is Eric Garcia coming into the team, replacing Pau Cubarsi.

This means that Eric will work alongside Inigo Martinez to protect Inaki Pena’s goal, while they will be flanked on the left and right by Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde.

Pedri joins Marc Casado in the more withdrawn midfield positions, allowing Dani Olmo to advance further and keep the same line as left winger Lamine Yamal and right winger Raphinha.

In Flick’s famous 4-2-3-1 from his Bayern Munich days, Robert Lewandowski is the only striker – as was the case in Bavaria at the turn of the millennium.

FC Barcelona starting eleven against Leganes: Inaki; Balde, Inigo, Eric, Kounde; Casado, Pedri; Raphinha, Olmo, Lamine; Lewandowski
