Fonseca explains decision to use Terracciano in midfield: “A very intelligent player”

Paulo Fonseca spoke to the media ahead of AC Milan’s clash against Hellas Verona at the Stadio Bentegodi. In addition to the attacking options, he explained Filippo Terracciano’s role in the midfield tandem.

The manager made it easy a change in the starting elevenreplaced Mattia Liberali with Filippo Terracciano and moved Tijjani Reijnders to the No. 10 position. Terracciano, who played both left-back and right-back this season, is a bit of a surprise.

Speaking to DAZN before the game, Fonseca explained why he chose the youngster in midfield, according to MilanNews. He was also asked about Theo Hernandez and made it clear that Alex Jimenez deserves to play after the Genoa game.

Why don’t you play with two strikers tonight?

“I think Morata is the only striker who can help defensively and act almost like an attacking midfielder. Abraham and Camarda are a different type of striker. Besides, we wouldn’t have had anyone to replace us.”

Is Theo ready to come?

“Theo is with us. I think Jimenez played a great game. He has to keep playing, that’s right for me. Theo, who has been working well, has to wait until he comes back. It’s a physical problem.”

Explain Terracciano’s role in midfield…

“He trains a lot as a midfielder. He is a very intelligent player, he understands the role very well. Now we have the choice between Liberali and Zeroli, who has only trained for two days… It’s a different game, with an aggressive team that scores individually. I think Pippo is the right solution to start the game.”

Milan absolutely need to get all three points as they are currently in eighth place and a decent distance from the top four. Indeed, without a win tonight, Fonseca’s position will come under severe scrutiny.
