Forget McDonald’s: Taco Bell is adding something new and completely unexpected to its menu

Taco Bell is famous for its Tex-Mex-inspired fast food, but this month the chain is adding a completely different menu item to its lineup.

Starting Thursday, Taco Bell is adding chicken nuggets to its menu for a limited time. But the restaurant puts its own twist on the All-American fast-food favorite: The white meat chicken bites are marinated in zesty jalapeño buttermilk flavor and breaded with a mixture of breadcrumbs and tortilla chips.

In a world where McDonald’s and Chick-Fil-A are the front runners in the chicken nugget category, the fast food chain says it’s up to the challenge of sending another competitor into the ring, especially with its new one Assortment of three new dipping sauces: Hidden Valley Fire Ranch, Bell and Jalapeño Honey Mustard. The star of the trio, says Taco Bell, is Hidden Valley, a “groundbreaking innovation that combines both brands’ iconic flavors that fans love.”

“As the creator of Nacho Fries, Taco Bell fully understands that reinventing an American classic with a Taco Bell twist is a responsibility we do not take lightly. But in a world dominated by chicken cravings, it was time to show the world how Taco Bell makes chicken nuggets—unexpectedly and undeniably bold,” Taco Bell Chief Marketing Officer Taylor Montgomery said in a statement Press release. “The Crispy Chicken Nuggets provide a crispier, more flavorful nugget experience and when combined with the Hidden Valley Fire Ranch Sauce, we hope they will test people’s devotion to their favorite nuggets.”

Here’s a look at the dipping sauces:

  • Hidden Valley Fire Ranch Sauce: Taco Bell’s first-ever ranch partnership brings together Taco Bell Fire Sauce and Hidden Valley Ranch.
  • Bell sauce: Bell Sauce offers a spicy, signature blend with subtle chili notes, made from tomatoes, red chilies and garlic.
  • Jalapeño honey mustard: The Jalapeño Honey Mustard, which combines honey mustard with a pinch of jalapeño.
