Former Florida Edge commits to Alabama in transfer portal

Former Florida Edge commits to Alabama in transfer portal

Alabama football received a commitment through the transfer portal on Tuesday in an urgent situation. Edge rusher Kelby Collins committed to the Crimson Tide after starting his college career at Florida.

Collins shared the news on his social media accounts alongside On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Collins’ commitment means the Gardendale product is returning to his home state. He considered leaving high school in 2023 but decided to join the Gators instead.

He will help out at a position where Alabama is currently a bit thin. Que Robinson, whose 2024 season ended early due to injury, is ineligible to play, and the Tide have already lost Keanu Koht to the transfer portal, so another hand to help out in the pass rush was a key portal target.

Collins started as an edge at Florida and totaled 23 tackles with 1.5 sacks as a depth piece. His efforts in 2023 earned him Freshman All-SEC honors.

However, a position change for the 2024 season buried him on the Gators depth chart. Collins moved into a three-technique end role and only totaled six tackles during the 2024 season, all of which came against Mississippi State.

The 247Sports roundup ranked Collins as a four-star portal prospect upon joining. He was a three-star recruit coming out of high school in Gardendale.

Collins is listed at 6-foot-1 and 278 pounds. When he graduated high school he weighed 265 pounds.

The transfer portal is currently open to students through December 28th. Alabama players will get an additional window after their season-ending appearance in the ReliaQuest Bowl on Dec. 31.
