Former GOP Rep. David Jolly excoriates Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski over meeting with Trump: ‘You can’t do that’

It wasn’t such happy news.

Former Republican congressman David Jolly criticized Democrats — particularly the network’s “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski — on MSNBC Friday for giving President-elect Donald Trump “equality with traditional American values.”

Jolly disagreed with Scarborough and Brezinski, who came under fire after meeting with the 78-year-old Trump two weeks ago at his palatial Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.

“Don’t just say we’re going to get justice for Donald Trump, which is what some people in the Democratic Party, in the media and among voters are doing,” Jolly said, according to a shared clip on “Deadline: White House.” from Mediaite.

“They say, ‘I’ll just give up.’ We will give him equity. “We will equate him with traditional American values,” Jolly continued.

“No, that is absolutely wrong. You can’t do that. Forgive me for saying this. You can’t go to Mar-a-Lago. You can’t,” Jolly said, openly rejecting the “Morning Joe” hosts’ attempt to mend fences after being harsh critics of twice-elected Trump.

“This will get me in trouble,” he added.

Jolly further claimed that resistance politics is the only way forward for Democrats who “know” they are “right” but simply lost the presidential election.

“The only answer is to hold Donald Trump and his allies even more accountable and to try harder to present a democracy that represents all people, even in a losing environment,” he stressed.

Scarborough and Brzezinski, who are married, had a face-to-face meeting with The Don at Mar-a-Lago earlier this month after years of endless and often ludicrous criticism of the former and future president.

The couple was heavily criticized – including by Donald Trump Jr. – for appearing to “kiss the ring,” and their ratings fell even lower after the news reached MSNBC viewers.

However, the “Morning Joe” hosts stood firm and portrayed their actions as a necessary step forward in the interest of public discourse.

“Five years of political war have deeply divided Washington and the country. “We have expressed our deep concern about President Trump’s actions and words in coarsening the public debate as clearly as ever,” Brzezinski said after her visit.

“But for nearly 80 million Americans, election denial, public trials and January 6th were not as important as the issues that motivated them to vote to send Donald Trump back to the White House,” she continued.

“Joe and I realize it’s time to do something different, and that starts with not just talking about Donald Trump, but with him.”

Viewership has plummeted since Trump’s historic victory, not just for “Morning Joe” but for the entire left-leaning network MSNBC – even the network’s most popular “Rachel Maddow Show” has lost 40% of its viewers.

Jolly is a regular MSNBC guest and served as the Republican representative in the House of Representatives for Florida’s 13th District from 2014 to 2017. In 2016, he lost his seat to Democrat Charlie Crist.
