Former governor discovers mysterious drones in Maryland and criticizes administration for lack of transparency

Former Republican Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland said he personally saw “dozens of large drones” flying over his home in Davidsonville, Maryland, on Thursday evening as the mystery surrounding the various unexplained sightings continues.

“Last night, around 9:45 p.m., I personally saw (and filmed) what appeared to be dozens of large drones in the sky above my residence in Davidsonville, Maryland (25 miles from our nation’s capital),” Hogan wrote on X Friday. “I observed the activity for about 45 minutes.”

The former governor said he didn’t know whether these drone sightings were evidence of a threat to public or national security, but called out the federal government for a “complete lack of transparency” amid concerns from Americans.

DRONE MYSTERY baffles New Jersey officials and frustrates residents

“The government has the ability to track these from their point of origin but has been negligent in their response. People are rightly demanding answers but are not getting them,” Hogan wrote.

“We are told that neither the White House, the military, the FBI nor Homeland Security have any idea what they are, where they came from, or who launched or controls them – and that they pose no threat.”

“This reaction is completely unacceptable. I join the growing cross-party chorus of world leaders demanding that the federal government address this issue immediately. The American people deserve answers and action now.”

Hogan released a two-minute video of what he saw, although it’s hard to make out what objects they were.

Since mid-November, a series of unidentified drone sightings have been spotted near U.S. military installations and over homes in New Jersey, raising alarm.

Apparently drones have also been spotted in New York City and at over three US Air Force bases in the UK.

White House national security communications adviser John Kirby said that many of the alleged drone sightings were actually legally operating manned aircraft and that there was no evidence of a threat to national security or public safety.

Frustrated residents, believing the government’s responses were inadequate, threatened to take matters into their own hands and shoot it down. Both parties criticized the government’s handling of the situation.

We are vulnerable to drone attacks and it will get worse

Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., said on Capitol Hill Thursday that he was “frustrated” by the government’s lack of transparency.

The senator said he has issued a letter asking for more information because Americans should know what is happening in the sky.

“I was a little frustrated,” he told reporters. “There is not enough transparency to let people know what is happening. This allows a lot of potential misinformation to spread, or at least cause fear. We should know what’s going on above our skies.”

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy called on President Biden to provide more federal funding to get to the bottom of numerous drone sightings across the Garden State in recent weeks.

Murphy noted that federal law limits state and local law enforcement’s ability to combat drones, but said the federal government has the authority to shoot down the mysterious drones.

In a separate letter to congressional leaders, Murphy urged lawmakers to pass legislation giving local authorities the ability to use advanced detection and containment technologies to combat drone activity.

“The emerging threat of UAS flights, coupled with the inability of state and local law enforcement to meaningfully address them, is a cause for concern,” Murphy wrote.

The FAA said it was investigating the reported sightings and also issued a temporary flight restriction for the airspace around Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

“We review all reports of unauthorized drone operations and investigate as appropriate,” a spokesperson told Fox News Digital. “Drone operators who conduct unsafe operations that endanger other aircraft or people on the ground could face fines of up to $75,000. Additionally, we may suspend or revoke the pilot licenses of drone operators.”
