Former LSU football player Kyren Lacy wanted after fatal accident | Crime/Police

Former LSU football player Kyren Lacy caused a fatal accident in Lafourche Parish and is now wanted for involuntary manslaughter, state police said Friday.

Police are in contact with Lacy and his attorney about turning himself in, the agency said in a news release.

The accident occurred on December 17, 2024 on La. 20 near Perez Lane in Lafourche Parish. Lacy, who was driving south in a 2023 Dodge Charger, “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the center line and entering the northbound lane in a no-passing zone,” the release said.

As the driver of a northbound pickup truck turned right to avoid a collision with Lacy, the driver behind the truck took evasive action, crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a southbound Kia Sorrento, police said.

According to police, Lacy drove around the scene without stopping to help, call emergency services or report his involvement in the accident.

A passenger in the Kia Sorrento, 78-year-old Herman Hall of Thibodaux, was taken to a hospital where he died from his injuries.

Police obtained a warrant for Lacy’s arrest in Lafourche Parish 17th District Court on charges of involuntary manslaughter, hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle.

LSU spokesman Zach Greenwell said, “Out of respect for the legal process, we have no comment at this time.”

The investigation is ongoing, state police said.

Lacy graduated in December and was not participating in practice for the Texas Bowl at the time of the crash, LSU said. Two days later, he released an announcement about entering the 2025 NFL Draft, but had already withdrawn from the bowl game, ending his college career. Lacy no longer had college eligibility.

Lacy, LSU’s leading receiver as a senior last season, recorded a career-high 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. In three years at LSU, he caught 112 passes for 1,692 yards and 16 touchdowns. Lacy was a three-star recruit out of Thibodaux High and began his career at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

Lacy, who is 6-foot-1 and 220 pounds, was expected to be selected in the NFL Draft. He accepted an invitation to play in the Senior Bowl in February.
