Former LSU recruiting bust Arik Gilbert is entering the transfer portal again

The transfer portal has become a great way for college football teams to load up, while also giving players a path to playing time that they may not be able to find at their current schools. Most names entering the transfer portal are expected, but there are a few entries each year that stand out due to their valuable recruiting pedigree.

On Tuesday, former LSU tight end Arik Gilbert entered the transfer portal for the third time in search of a fourth school.

As a recruit, Arik Gilbert was one of the top-ranked tight end recruits of all time, drawing comparisons to players like OJ Howard and Kyle Pitts. As a recruit, Gilbert was a unanimous top ten recruit and unanimous top tight end in the recruiting cycle.

As a freshman at LSU, Gilbert caught 35 passes for 368 yards and two touchdowns and appeared to be on his way to stardom. Gilbert then transferred to Georgia, where he caught just two passes for 16 yards and a touchdown. Gilbert would transfer to Nebraska again this time, but two off-field incidents kept him from playing for the Cornhuskers.

Now a redshirt senior, Gilbert is looking for a new school where he can showcase his talent and potentially turn it into a career in the NFL. It will be interesting to see who pursues Gilbert and where he ends up. Hopefully Gilbert is able to turn his life and career around as he was considered a major recruiting killer, but with a good season his fortunes could change.
