Former New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye has been released by the Miami Dolphins

Former New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Maye was released by the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday after they recalled rookie DB Patrick McMorris from injured reserve. Since signing a three-year deal with the Saints, Mayes’ career has been on a pretty steep downturn.

He looked solid but not great for New Orleans in 2022 and was a good veteran presence. However, in 2023, he was suspended for three games due to his substance abuse policy violation and was placed on injured reserve later in the season, forcing him to play in just seven games in total.

A year before the end of his contract, he was released by the Saints and eventually signed with the Miami Dolphins, where he only started three games but played a total of eleven. Before this move, he received just 43% of defensive snaps and 39% of special teams snaps with the Dolphins, and Miami’s intention is to bring him back to the practice squad if he clears waivers, like Tom Pelissero mentioned. We’ll see where he ends up, but ultimately it’s not a good sign for the 31-year-old veteran.
