Former Patriots player says Bill Belichick would be the ‘worst’ college head coach of all time

Add Ross Tucker to the list of former Patriots who aren’t convinced Bill Belichick is a college head coach.

During his weekly appearance on WEEI afternoons In Boston with Christian Arcand and Andy Hart on Tuesday, Tucker — who played for New England in 2005 — was blunt about his thoughts about the 72-year-old potentially taking the head coaching job at North Carolina.

“Based on my experience in college football, which is not the current era, and based on my experience coaching Belichick – which dates back almost 20 years – he would probably be by far the worst college head coach I could ever imagine. “,” Tucker, host of the Ross Tucker Podcastthe show said with a laugh.

“I mean the idea of the man I was with who was recruiting,” he continued. “Or like walking into a 17-year-old’s living room – I want that to happen so badly that I can taste it. I mean, if they do it, they must have cameras everywhere. The guy when I was in New England was like 100% negative reinforcement. I would like to see how quickly these kids get into the transfer portal.

Even though he appeared to be speaking in jest, this was a pretty strong criticism from Tucker of Belichick.

For now, the Belichick-to-North Carolina story is quiet on all fronts. The former Patriots head coach has reportedly conducted three interviews with the school and according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Belichick’s interest is real and “if Belichick wants it, they could find a way for him to get it.”
