Former President. Jimmy Carter will not attend President-elect Trump’s inauguration – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANTA — The longest-living president will not attend President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration in January, according to the Carter Center.

The Carter Center confirmed this Channel 2 action news that former President Jimmy Carter has been in home hospice care for nearly two years and therefore will not attend the inauguration.

Earlier this month, the former president’s grandson, Jason Carter, said the key to his grandfather’s longevity was his faith and stubbornness.

The family of the 39th president, who turned 100 on Oct. 1, said he looked forward to voting for Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Carter’s ballot was dropped off in a mailbox at the Sumter County Courthouse near his hometown of Plains.

Former President Carter and former first lady Rosalynn Carter did not attend Joe Biden’s 2021 inauguration, The Associated Press reported. This was the first time the couple missed the ceremonies since Carter was sworn in as the 39th president in 1977.

Former first lady Carter died in November 2023 at the family home in Plains after a battle with dementia.

Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President of the United States is scheduled for Monday, January 20, 2025.

The inauguration ceremonies will take place at the US Capitol in Washington.
