Former Prime Minister and senior Congress MP Manmohan Singh has died at the age of 92

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh died on Thursday at the age of 92. The senior Congress MP was admitted to AIIMS Delhi in a critical condition on Thursday evening after his health deteriorated. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha earlier this year, ending a 33-year stint in the upper house of Parliament.

According to a statement shared by AIIMS Delhi, the former politician passed away on Thursday evening while undergoing treatment for “age-related ailments”. Political leaders across party lines – including JP Nadda and Priyanka Gandhi – had rushed to the hospital when the news broke.

“He was being treated for age-related illnesses and suddenly lost consciousness at home on December 26. Resuscitation measures were initiated immediately at home. He was rushed to the emergency medical unit at AIIMS, New Delhi at 8:06 pm. “Despite all efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 pm,” the hospital said.

The news sparked a wave of messages of grief and condolence on social media platforms – with many, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, recalling their interactions with Singh.

“Dr. Manmohan Singh II and I interacted regularly when he was the Prime Minister and I was the CM of Gujarat. We would hold detailed consultations on various governance issues. His wisdom and humility were always visible. In this hour of grief, my thoughts are with the family of Dr. Manmohan Singh ji, his friends and countless admirers. Om Shanti,” he wrote on X.

This is a developing story…
