The ongoing saga of former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Diontae Johnson continues. Multiple sources, including Ian Rapoport, report that the Houston Texans have waived Johnson just days before their playoff showdown against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Pittsburgh traded Johnson to the Carolina Panthers in the 2024 offseason after the team determined that his on-field performance did not outweigh the non-football issues Johnson presented.

Since Week Eight of the 2024 season, Johnson has been on three NFL teams and has totaled four receptions. Now Johnson is once again looking for a team instead of working with the Texans in the playoffs.

It’s amazing how far Johnson has fallen in such a short time. From 2020 to 2022, Johnson completed 281 passes for 2,966 yards. His production dropped in 2023, leading to the trade, and things went downhill from there.

We know the Steelers have no qualms about bringing back former players as a sign of loyalty and whatnot, but in this case, it’s hard to imagine that the Steelers, no matter how much they need a wide receiver, would entertain the idea of bringing Johnson back to get into the squad.
