Max Verstappen will soon be looking for something new: diapers.

The reigning Formula 1 world champion, 27, and his girlfriend Kelly Piquet, 35, are expecting their first child together.

“We couldn’t be happier with our little miracle 💫,” the couple said in a joint social media post shared on Friday, December 6, to announce their happy news.

The upload included a photo of Verstappen and Piquet placing their hands on her baby bump. “Mini Verstappen-Piquet on the way ❤️,” they wrote.

This will be Piquet’s second child. The Brazilian model, the daughter of three-time F1 champion Nelson Piquet, shares five-year-old daughter Penelope with former Russian F1 driver Daniil Kvyat.

Kelly and Kvyat separated in 2019. She and Verstappen began dating in 2020 and made their romance public on New Year’s Day 2021 with a sweet snapshot of them posing together on a Brazilian beach. “Love is what makes the world go round,” she wrote.

Although Verstappen rarely shares personal things on Instagram, Kelly regularly posts photos of herself with her boyfriend. She called him “the love of my life” and often bragged about how proud she was of his success.

Verstappen currently drives under the Dutch flag in Formula 1 for Red Bull Racing. He has won four consecutive Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championships from 2021 to 2024 and has a whopping 63 Grand Prix victories over the last ten seasons.

On Saturday he will contest his tenth F1 race of the year at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. It will be the last race of Verstappen’s season.

The athlete also comes from the premier class of racing. He is the son of former Dutch Formula 1 driver Jos Verstappen and former Belgian kart racer Sophie Kumpen.

Until his next race, Max can enjoy the congratulations being shared on social media.

“I can’t express how happy we are,” Kelly wrote on her Instagram Stories on Friday, thanking her friends and followers for “all the sweet, heartfelt messages.”

She also took the time to express her support for women who want to have children of their own.

“I understand how challenging these announcements can be for those who desire a child,” Kelly wrote. “While such news is often a joyful occasion, it can also bring up feelings of sadness, frustration or longing for those who are struggling. If this is you, I send you all my love, my deepest hugs and my magic.”
