A Fortnite server outage was announced prior to the release of Update 33.20.

The new Fortnite update will be available to download on the morning of January 14th. However, you will not be able to test the new content until server maintenance is complete.

According to Epic Games, Fortnite will be taken completely offline at 9am GMT UK time, but matchmaking will be disabled shortly beforehand.

If you want to play a quick game of Fortnite before downtime, you’ll probably need to join a game before 8:30am GMT.

The news was announced by Epic Games on X (formerly Twitter), along with a hint about what exactly fans can expect from the new update.

“Brace for devastation!” reads one epic tweet. “Downtime for v33.20 begins at 4 a.m. ET, with matchmaking ending shortly before that.”

For UK fans, this means Fortnite will go completely offline at 9:00am GMT, while matchmaking will be disabled at 8:30am UK time.

Epic hasn’t announced exactly when the downtime will end, but maintenance typically lasts 2-3 hours.

This means Fortnite and all companion game modes should be back online from 11am GMT UK time.

Since it has been a few weeks since the last update, there is a possibility that the file size is larger than usual. So keep checking back for more information.

As you can see from the tweet above, Godzilla will be coming to the game as a new boss. It is also recommended that Kong enters the game as part of another new crossover.

Speaking of crossovers, Epic Games just announced Hatsune Miku as the icon for Fortnite Festival Season 7.

This includes two Hatsune Miku skins as well as the Beam Emote and the Hatsune Miku Festival Stage.

Fans can also expect new information to be released regarding Fortnite OG Season 2, which is expected to arrive towards the end of the month.

Of course, Epic Games will also make a number of bug fixes and gameplay optimizations.
