Firefighters are battling a major fire in Malibu that has spread across thousands of acres since it broke out on Monday.

The Franklin Fire, which broke out around 11 p.m. PST on Monday along Malibu Canyon Road in the hills north of Pepperdine University, has spread across 3,049 acres in Los Angeles County. The fire is currently not contained and 1,500 firefighters are on duty to extinguish it.

“Today, firefighters actively worked on containment efforts along the fire perimeter,” the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (Calfire) said in its latest update released at 9:30 p.m. “The deep and rugged terrain as well as the…” Strong winds and low humidity continue to pose challenges for firefighters. However, firefighters continued to work aggressively to control the fire and protect buildings.

Strong Santa Ana winds have pushed moist air from the Pacific Ocean off land in recent days, contributing to the fire’s rapid spread. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Celebrities share their whereabouts amid the fire

As the Franklin Fire continues to wreak havoc in Malibu, several celebrities have been forced to evacuate their homes. According to her publicist Liz Rosenberg, who spoke to The New York Times, Cher and her pets moved to a hotel on Monday night.

Barbara Streisand’s representatives are still confirming the whereabouts of the legendary singer, who lives with her husband, actor James Brolin, in a 10,000-square-foot estate in Malibu.

English actress Jane Seymour also evacuated her house in the fire area. In a post on Instagram, Seymour shared her relief that her family was safe and offered support to those still in danger. “My thoughts are with everyone who is still in danger,” Seymour wrote.

Dick Van Dyke confirmed yesterday that he and his wife were “safely evacuated”

Entertainer Dick Van Dyke confirmed in a Facebook post yesterday that he and his wife Arlene Silver were “safely evacuated” amid the raging Franklin Fire in Malibu.

Arlene and I evacuated safely with our animals, with the exception of Bobo, who escaped during the departure. We pray that he is well and that our community at Serra Retreat survives these terrible fires


However, he added that his cat Bobo went missing during the evacuation. He later shared a video in a separate post, writing, “I hope Bobo is okay.”
